Aquarium Volume Calculator

Tank length × width × height in, litres and US gallons out — plus what the water alone will weigh, which your floor and stand care about.

Example — Tank 100 × 40 × 50 cm200 litres (52.8 US gallons)

How we got it — the example, step by step

  1. Volume = 100 × 40 × 50 = 200,000 cm³.
  2. 1 litre is exactly 1,000 cm³, so 200,000 ÷ 1,000 = 200 litres. In US gallons: × 0.264172 = 52.83.
  3. The water alone weighs about 200 kg (1 litre ≈ 1 kg) — before gravel, glass and fish.

Check it backwards

200 litres × 1,000 = 200,000 cm³ — the volume from the dimensions.

Questions people also ask

Why does my tank hold less than this in practice?
Three honest reasons: you do not fill to the rim, gravel and decor displace water, and the dimensions that matter are the inside ones — glass thickness comes off each. Measure inside and leave the air gap, and expect a few percent less.
