How we got the density
- Density is the one figure on this page that is calculated rather than looked up: population ÷ area.
- 68.6 million people = 68,600,000 people. Divided by 947,303 km²: 72.42 people per km², which rounds to 72.
Check it backwards
72 × 947,303 km² ≈ 68,584,737 people — back to the population, apart from the rounding of the density to a whole number.
