How we got the density
- Density is the one figure on this page that is calculated rather than looked up: population ÷ area.
- 116.5 million people = 116,500,000 people. Divided by 1,002,450 km²: 116.22 people per km², which rounds to 116.
Check it backwards
116 × 1,002,450 km² ≈ 116,484,690 people — back to the population, apart from the rounding of the density to a whole number.
