Matrix Calculator
Type a matrix. You get its determinant, inverse or eigenvalues — or a cross product for two 3-number vectors — with the working shown.
Example — Determinant of [1, 2; 3, 4]−2
How we got it — the example, step by step
- For a 2×2 matrix, det = a×d − b×c.
- = 1 × 4 − 2 × 3 = 4 − 6 = −2.
Questions people also ask
How are matrices typed in?
One row per line, or rows separated by semicolons, numbers separated by spaces: 1 2; 3 4 is the matrix with rows (1, 2) and (3, 4).
What if the matrix has no inverse?
That happens exactly when its determinant is 0. The calculator checks the determinant first and tells you, instead of printing nonsense.
