Simplify Calculator

Type an expression. You get its simplest form, and a same-value check at real numbers.

Example — Simplify (x^2 − 1) / (x − 1)x + 1

How we got it — the example, step by step

  1. Top and bottom share the factor (x − 1): the top is (x − 1)(x + 1).
  2. Divide both by (x − 1) to cancel it.

Check it backwards

Same value, both forms: at x = 0.7, both give 1.7; at x = 2.9, both give 3.9. One warning: the original is undefined at x = 1, even though x + 1 works there.

Questions people also ask

How do I know the simplified form is right?
Clirto tests both forms at several values of x and prints the comparison. If they ever disagreed, the simplification would be wrong — they do not.
