Graphing Calculator

Type a function. You get its graph on a grid, drawn point by point from the function itself.

Example — Graph of x^2A parabola opening upwards, lowest point (0, 0)

How we got it — the example, step by step

  1. The graph is drawn by evaluating the function at hundreds of x values and joining the points — what you see is the function, not a sketch of it.
  2. For x^2: at x = −2, −1, 0, 1, 2 the values are 4, 1, 0, 1, 4 — symmetric, as the picture shows.

Questions people also ask

What functions can it graph?
Anything the math engine can evaluate: polynomials, sin and cos, exponentials, fractions like 1/x. Breaks in the graph (like the gap in 1/x at 0) are real features of the function.
