How we got the density
- Density is the one figure on this page that is calculated rather than looked up: population ÷ area.
- 37.9 million people = 37,900,000 people. Divided by 603,500 km²: 62.8 people per km², which rounds to 63.
Check it backwards
63 × 603,500 km² ≈ 37,899,800 people — back to the population, apart from the rounding of the density to a whole number.
