Screen Size Calculator

A '65-inch TV' is 65 inches corner to corner — this turns the diagonal into the real width and height, for TVs and monitors, with Pythagoras shown.

Example — How wide is a 65-inch 16:9 TV?56.65″ wide × 31.87″ tall (144.0 × 81.0 cm)

How we got it — the example, step by step

  1. A screen's stated size is its diagonal. The diagonal of a 16:9 rectangle is √(16² + 9²) = 18.3576 ratio-units.
  2. Width = 65 × 16 ÷ 18.3576 = 56.65 inches. Height = 65 × 9 ÷ 18.3576 = 31.87 inches.

Check it backwards

√(56.65² + 31.87²) = 65.00 — the diagonal we started with.

Questions people also ask

Will a 65-inch TV fit my 60-inch-wide stand?
The picture is 56.65 inches wide, so yes for the screen — but measure the set's full body width from its spec sheet before buying: bezels add a little, and feet often sit wider than the middle of the screen.
